Spirited Can and Bottle Drive
January 2020 event complete. Thank you for your support!

Our Annual “Spirited” Can and Bottle Drive will officially kick off December 13th and will run until January 13th.  For one month, during the holiday season, we ask each Music family to collect and return as many empty cans and bottles as possible… empties from family, friends and neighbours…
Then, send the money from those returns to school with your Music student, on or before January 13th.  A record will be kept of monies collected and each dollar will earn 10 “Spirit Points” for your student’s grade and discipline – Winds, Strings or Vocals.  Ask your child about “Spirit Points”.  Students collect these points all year long, by participating and competing in different social events.  The winning discipline is then treated to a highly coveted pizza lunch at the end of the year.

Deadline: January 13, 2020

  • Step 1:  Tell your friends, family and neighbours about the Can and Bottle Drive!
    • Click here to download a flyer
  • Step 2: Collect containers
  • Step 2: Return containers for refund.
  • Step 3: Place refund in an envelope marked with your music student's name, grade, music discipline (Winds, Strings, Vocals) and the fundraiser name, "Spirited" Can and Bottle Drive.
  • Step 4: Submit refund to Mr. Sinkus before the deadline.
  • Step 5: Earn 10  "Spirit Points" for each dollar raised and help Canterbury Music fund wish list items and Music Department initiatives.

Prior to 2019, we had multiple drop-off points offered by kind Canterbury parents throughout the city.  The new virtual format has been well received, and we continue to welcome feedback on this and our other fundraisers.
Bottles <= 630mL and Cans < 1L  earn a 10 cent deposit return

Recycling Gone Wild?

Did you know that there are many options for donating items for recycling in the city?

The City of Ottawa maintains a list of over 900 items indicating garbage vs. recycling.
https://app06.ottawa.ca/cgi-bin/search/recycle/q.pl

Local registered charity "Helping with Furniture | Aidons avec des meubles", accepts donations of furniture, time or money.  Check out their awesome website outlining what they are looking for.  Donated items go to families and individuals in Ottawa.

Capital Junk provides an easy-to-read webpage to help us find a proper disposal site and recycling depot for our materials.  https://capitaljunk.ca/ottawa-recycling-guide/

The Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association accepts any used book donation and provides input as to what they can sell vs. recycle.  For example, sheet music is hard to sell, so they suggest placing that in your black bin.
What they accept/prefer: https://www.fopla-aabpo.ca/what-we-accept/
Where to donate: https://www.fopla-aabpo.ca/where-to-donate/

You may already donate gently used clothing and textiles, but did you know H&M recycles all clothes and textiles?  As they say on their website:  “Drop off clothes and textiles from ANY brand, in ANY condition” http://about.hm.com/en/sustainability/get-involved/recycle-your-clothes.html

There is also a “MoneyForMetal.com” AIM recycling centres with locations in Ottawa West, Ottawa East, Gatineau and Cornwall.
